Sydney Fox Receives Fulbright Scholarship

As the academic year draws to an end and graduates prepare for their next steps, one SFHC scholar among many has received exciting post-grad news.

Sydney Fox, a member of the entering 2018 cohort, was awarded the 2022-23 Fulbright Fellowship Open Study/Research award to study in Iceland.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is an international fellowship aimed at facilitating cultural exchange between graduate students and young professionals. Fulbright scholars partake in independent research and service projects spanning up to a full academic year. The program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, along with partner governments, foundations, and host institutions outside the U.S.

The Fulbright grant will support Sydney in a one-year independent research project at Reykjavik University in Iceland. She will be working with Dr. Hlynur Stefánsson to quantitatively and qualitatively identify microplastics present in the Vatnajökull ice caps, the largest glaciers by volume in Europe. This project will contribute data to intersectional studies of environmental sustainability, climate health, and human health.

Congratulations, Sydney!
