From its inception, SFHC was envisioned as a “community of learners” wherein its students would learn not only from their professors but also from other students who, like themselves, are committed to making the most of their undergraduate experiences and have an intense desire to change their communities and workplaces, and the world, for the better.

Fresno State and the world around it have changed a lot since 1998, but the values that led to the founding of SFHC remain very much in place. 

The story of how SFHC came to existence starts with the efforts of one individual who, for years, envisioned having an Honors College on the Fresno State campus with the belief that such an entity would enhance the intellectual environment for all students and faculty at this university.

Each day, I am thankful to be the SFHC Director. I am filled with gratitude because my work allows me to spend time with academically-talented students who have chosen to chase their big dreams. They are pursuing those dreams while also serving the communities they live in, both on- and off-campus.

How is it June 2022 already–where has the year gone?! This past academic year has certainly been one for the history books, as we had to navigate an ever-changing terrain, trying to transition from an all-virtual setting to hybrid and in-person modes…
