One Lawyer’s Path: From Smittcamp to the Fresno City Attorney’s Office

On September 27, 2021, SFHC alumnus Raj Singh Badhesha gave a talk at the Honors Colloquium titled “One Lawyer’s Path: From Smittcamp to the Fresno City Attorney’s Office.”

Raj Singh Badhesha is a native of Fresno County and attended Sanger High School before becoming a President’s Scholar with the Smittcamp Family Honors College at CSU Fresno.

While at Fresno State, Raj was in the Craig Honors Program, served as a Maddy Institute Scholar-Intern in Washington DC, and held multiple offices in ASI, Inc. He was also involved in Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and the Sikh Student Association.  During undergrad, he also studied North Indian classical music and Gurmat Sangeet for a semester in Punjab, India.  Raj graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and a minor in Communication. He went on to attend law school at UC Hastings College of the Law.

After graduate school, Raj returned home and began practicing law at Baker, Manock, and Jensen, PC and later transitioned to an in-house position with the City of Fresno.  Raj is currently an Assistant City Attorney and works on many interesting and novel legal issues, along with some less-than-interesting routine matters.

Currently, Raj resides with his family on their farm in Selma.  He and his wife, Upkar Kaur, have two very energetic children who keep them busy and tired.  In his “free” time Raj enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling to see family and friends.
